Forest Magic
"As imperceptibly as Grief
The Summer lapsed away -
Too imperceptible at last,
To seem like Perfidy -
A Quietness distilled
As Twilight long begun
Or Nature spending with herself
Sequestered Afternoon -
The Dusk drew earlier in -
The Morning foreign shone -
A courtous, yet harrowing Grace,
As Guest, that would be gone -
And thus, without a Wing
Or service of a Keel
Our Summer made her light escape
Into the Beautiful."
--Emily Dickinson

Apalachicola_NF_Bog1-HDR.jpg
The photo was made in the Apalachicola National Forest of North Florida, USA in spring. There are a number of bogs there where the conditions are just right for carnivorous plants to grow in abundance. The diversity and beauty make a stunning combination if you can find one of these bogs at its peak.

Mullerthal Forest & Geology, Beaufort
This one's special for me. The woodland creeps into a campsite we used to go to when I was growing up, and, as you wander out of the campground, the trees tumble away into endless labyrinths of red sandstone and green leaves.
They're the woods I wandered through before and after phoning back to Oxford from family holiday on a public phone to find out if I had a place. Still smell, exactly the same.

Napaeozapus insignis
The woodland jumping mouse pictured was found at an abandoned ranger cabin on the Madawaska River
in Algonquin Park (Ontario Canada). It was quite frightened by our presence as there isn't much human traffic in that area, but stayed still long enough for a couple photos.

Great Being
This forest belongs to highway one, from Muir Woods
to Mendocino in California. This exact place is called Phillips Family Grove. Very special Sequoia.

Charlotte's Web
This is an image I was lucky enough to capture in Durham Forest here in Canada
. We are blessed to be on a natural spring that has the best tasting water any where in the world, I am sure.
